What’s a Weaving Workshop?

Gadigal Master Weaver Nadeena Dixon explains:

Connect with the spiritual and cultural wisdom of the Gadigal people as we weave the Boobook Protection Owl—a powerful symbol of protection, care, and strength.

In Gadigal culture, the Boobook Owl watches over the community, offering protection to those who feel vulnerable, unseen or alone.

As a spiritual guide, the owl sees beyond the visible, guarding against harm and providing comfort to those in need.

During this workshop, you’ll create your own Boobook Protection Owl using natural materials like Raffia grasses, mixed fibres and twine, alongside non-traditional elements such as wool, string and wire.

Each piece you weave represents the power of protection and healing, transforming this space into a place of safety and care.

By participating, you contribute to strengthening community resilience deepening connection to Country and engaging with spiritual guardianship through Gadigal Cultural perspectives.

Together, we weave protection and healing into the land and its people.
